VPN MOBILE ROUTER ( CDMA, EDGE )
1. General
2.5G mobile communication technology (GPRS/EDGE/CDMA 1x) has become widely used of industrials and utilities in recent years and many customers are seeking reliable, flexible and cost-effective data channel to build their information system. Many applications such as ATM, POS, SCADA and surveillance system will require data channels covered all country; this brings a bright future for GPRS/EDGE and CDMA 1x data networks applications.
Requirements towards information system are varied because of different features of numerous industrial applications. Mobile telecom service providers are required to provide industrial application solutions not only meeting common specifications and also individual special ones. Hence, Hongdian co-operates with mobile service providers to design products and network configurations suitable to industrial end users’ individualized applications. Hongdian has developed embedded, advanced and reliable Galaxy mobile (GPRS/EDGE/CDMA 1x) router for the applications.
GPRS network theoretically can provide a maximum bandwidth 171.2Kbps, actually; it works at 40~100Kbps bandwidth (it depends on service provider’s operation policy). As we know, GPRS is packet based network which provides TCP/IP communication channel.
EDGE stands for Enhanced Data Rate for GSM Evolution, it is capable of offering data rates of 384 kbps and, theoretically, of up to 473.6 kbps. A new modulation technique and error-tolerant transmission methods, combined with improved link adaptation mechanisms, make these EGPRS rates possible. This is the key to increased spectrum efficiency and enhanced applications, such as wireless Internet access, e-mail and file transfers.
Same as GPRS/EDGE network, CDMA 1x network can provide a maximum bandwidth up to 300Kb/s and actual transmitting and receiving bandwidth reaches 100Kb/s.
Galaxy family router is a dedicated ideal data transmission channel for industrial applications. It can be operated at GPRS or CDMA 1x network by selecting a different radio module.
 
2. Galaxy VPN Router Features
1) Non host support Normally, GPRS/EDGE or CDMA 1x Modem can be connected to a PC, and then dial an access number manually; it utilizes the PC resources to process the data transmission and protocol conversion. Galaxy router is an embedded platform built-in with a processor, RTOS, protocol stack and application software. It works automatically without host PC.
2) Always online Galaxy Router will automatically attach to GPRS/EDGE or CDMA 1x network when it is powered on, and then set up a transmission channel.
3) Toll on traffic Galaxy Router can be configured to work always online; it is charged according to traffic.
4) High speed Maximum GPRS bandwidth can be 171.2Kb/s, only 40~100Kb/s can be reached at actual application. EDGE is capable of offering data rates of 100~200Kb/s and, theoretically, of up to 473.6Kb/s. Maximum CDMA 1x network bandwidth can be 300Kbps. However, the bandwidth will depends the operator's policy. For example, it is only 80~100Kbps bandwidth at China Unicom CDMA 1x network.
5) Routing and NAT functions Galaxy router supports OSPF, RIP, routing table and NAT function; it is an ideal solution for enterprise network connection or SOHO application.
6) VPN Client/Server Galaxy H7921 VPN router supports PPTP, L2TP+IPSec VPN features. It provides the feasibility for customer to set up their own private network by using GPRS/EDGE or CDMA 1x network.
7) IPSec Encryption With the built-in IPSec Encryption function, it provides a high security channel and protects the user data transmission.

5.1. General Applications

H7000 GPRS/EDGE/CDMA 1x mobile data system is a universal communication system for industries and utilities. 5.2. Galaxy Router Typical Applications  
Application 1: VPN Client and Server Application

Since the GALAXY H7921 VPN router supports PPTP, L2TP+IPSec VPN features. Customer can easily set up their own private network by using GPRS/EDGE/CDMA 1x network. With the built-in IPSec encryption function, it also provides a high security channel and protects the user data transmission. Below diagram is the typical VPN application.

Application 2: Center to Multi-point

For industrial applications, it requires a device to collect information from discrete remote sites. The application show as below diagram is a typical video surveillance configuration. You can connect GALAXY router to a net-camera, and then setup the Data Service Center (DSC) IP address or domain name at Galaxy router.

By connecting your LAN and mobile network (WAN), you can share the GPRS or CDMA 1x access to your LAN by built-in NAT (Network Address Translation) technologies. Therefore, multiple IP terminals or PCs can share the Internet access via Galaxy router.

Serial port/Ethernet converter
For many non IP traditional terminals, you can also connect your non IP terminals to Galaxy router via RS232/485 interface. After then, your non IP terminal will become standard TCP/IP 10/100BaseT interface network equipment. It is possible to connect many non IP terminals to IP network at same place.
